Speed reading is not about blindly rushing. The goal is to increase throughput while keeping what matters.

1. Start slightly above your natural pace

If you read around 200 wpm, begin at 250-300 wpm. This range creates useful effort without breaking comprehension.

2. Train in short sessions

Work in 10 to 15-minute sessions, then increase by 25 wpm in the next one. Gradual progression is more stable.

3. Switch modes based on text type

  • RSVP: very effective for short, dense content.
  • Bionic: more comfortable for long-form reading.
  • Groups: a strong speed/comfort middle ground.

4. Check comprehension every time

After each pass, summarize what you retained in 2-3 sentences. If your summary is vague, lower the speed slightly.

With this approach, your speed increases sustainably without sacrificing reading quality.
